Chagga Tour


Chagga is a famous tribe in the Northern part of Tanzania, which during colonial rule they had a local leader known as Mangi. Because this leader was very strict at that time, the hard-working Chagga people became very creative and successful in practising large scale agriculture for coffee and banana plantation. Not only thatm but these people have an unique culture compared to other tribes in Tanzania. The Chagga tour will take you to learn more about local food, the local brew (mbege), local medicine and you will learn more about coffee and banana plantations.


After breakfast our day will begin with a 45 minutes drive from Moshi town to Chagga Village. On the way, you will be introduced to the attractions within Moshi town and will be given a vast amount of local information. After arriving at the village, we will go through registration with the village chairman before starting our tour. Your guide will give you an in-depth description of the area and the common things found there. You will get to know about the different lifestyles of the Chagga tribe by visiting some families, observing and joining in with their activities, and witnessing local practices. In the village expect to see lots of big trees, flowering plants, birds and some monkeys. After lunch, your tour will continue with an eye-opening experience teaching you more about coffee and bananas before of course giving you the opportunity to drink a sample of the local brew or coffee before driving back to Moshi/ Airport.
